Birds Created To Fly

If you’ve ever visited Israel, particularly during the spring and fall, you see birds in beautiful, natural settings of lush, verdant valleys, taking a refreshing rest on their way between continents. Birdwatchers from around the world gather. As a land bridge connecting Asia, Africa and Europe, Israel attracts millions of birds each year, along with ornithologists.

Some conjecture that these birds were once dinosaurs, but for scientifically-minded Bible believers, the evidence is not there. While some birds which once had the ability to fly might have lost that ability over time, the reverse is generally not true. Then there’s also the question of warm-blooded -versus- cold-blooded creatures. Not to mention lungs, “thumbs”, and feather differences. Look at Day Five and Day Six of creation: land animals came AFTER winged animals, not vice-versa (Genesis 1).

Houston, we have a problem. Birds did not evolve from dinosaurs. God creates unique creatures, just like you and me.

And the good news is, even without feathers, we can “fly”-!

You’re not designed to keep on plodding through life, one foot in front of the other, but instead, to rise up on wings like eagles. You are meant to run, and not be weary, to walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).

Look at his promises to Israel, couched in phrases that an ornithologist would love:

“Then Moses climbed the mountain to appear before God. The Lord called to him from the mountain and said, Give these instructions to the family of Jacob; announce it to the descendants of Israel: You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me” (Exodus 19:3-5).

According to the Bible, God is a bird-watcher: he knows when a sparrow falls… and he cares for you even more (Matthew 10:29-31)! He reminds that he carried Israel like a bird by air to their own land (Exodus 19:4). Today, let Jesus (Yeshua) lift you up and over every obstacle of life, bringing you to his intended destination!
