“Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:2). This Roman mosaic floor is to the side of the Temple Mount complex. In a Jewish setting, mosaics often featured geometric designs, or just plain beige for vast expanses in-between patterns. Set into the floor with mortar, the floor was durable, attractive and easy to clean, frequently used in bathhouses. This floor is near a mikveh, or Jewish ritual purification bath, where men or women would immerse themselves before visiting the Temple. Look how every stone matters and has a position to fulfill—just like you!
